This is a post with explanations for the comic strips posted on Facebook/Twitter (https://www.facebook.com/PuhutaanSuomeaMagazinehttps://twitter.com/puhutaansuomea) based on Finnish words representing animals.
For the native Finns they are surely obvious, but for those learning Finnish it usually requires a bit of explanation or a little research. So let’s try to explain them here.

  • ori – stallion
  • moottori – engine
  • gladiaattori – gladiator
  • reaktori – reactor (e.g. nuclear, etc.)
  • sponsori – sponsor
  • maori – maori (original settlers in New Zealand)
  • navigaattori – navigator

  • kettu – fox
  • jatkettu – continued
  • sotkettu – messed up
  • laskettu – lowered
  • kaskettu – burned (kasketa = to burn clear a field, usually to free it up from trees and use it to grow grain, cereals, etc.)
