Runebergin tunnetuin teos on Vänrikki Stoolin tarinat, joka kertoo vuosien 1808–1809 Suomen sodan sankareista. Teoksen avausrunosta Maamme (Vårt land) Suomen kansallislaulu.

Runebergin päivän viettoon kuuluvat Runebergin tortut. Uskotaan, että tortun reseptin kehitti Runebergin vaimo Fredrika. Runebergin päivä 5.2. liputuspäivä.
English Translation
Johan Ludvig Runeberg was a poet, writer and editor. Runeberg’s works had a great importance for the emergence of the Finnish national ideology. He is Finland’s national poet. Runeberg wrote his all works in Swedish.
The most known of Runeberg’s creations is The Tales of Ensign Stool, which tells about the heroes in the 1808–1809 Finnish war. The opening poem Maamme (Vårt land – Our Land) has become Finland’s national anthem.
Runeberg’s tart (in the picture) has become a symbol of the Runeberg’s day. It is believed that the recipe for the tart was created by Runeberg’s wife, Fredrika. Runeberg’s day 5.2. is a flag day in Finland.
